The Heart of Gold jumps around in time a little bit. Arthur, Fenchurch, and some other Earthlings are on Golgafrincham. Ford is trying new mind-and-time-altering substances. And the creator of the most amazing ship in the Galaxy, the Heart of Gold, goes about her life with and without that ship.

Eventually, everyone runs into each other, spaceships are flown and stolen, and the timeline is adjusted for success.
